Jiwi Forest Generations, 2018 Jiwi, meaning both wood and forest in the local Shipibo-Conibo language, is a project of the Belgian designer Sep Verboom in the spring of 2018. This documentary report visualizes his quest for certified wood together with the local community of Calleria in the Peruvian Amazon along the Ucayali River. Illegal lumbering is a major problem in Peru as many communities are dependent on the Amazon and the biological diversity it provides. The communities are trying to get political support and recognition of ownership on parts of the forest to conserve and use sustainably with social responsibility. Supported by the Flemish BOS+ and its Peruvian counterpart AIDER, Sep Verboom and artisans from the local community are trying to raise awareness on this topic through collaborative design.
